July's Pet Sitter Of The Month - Janine K.
Our Pet Sitter of the Month is Janine K.! Dog sitter by day and filmmaker by night, this awesome pet sitter is based in Melbourne. Every time she minds a dog, she and her partner take professional photos that manage to capture the unique personality of each dog. “All of them turn out very different because each dog has a different wonderful nature”. What is your greatest tip to other Pet Sitters? And could you please give us some tips on how to take better photos of our pets?
"Sending updates throughout the day can be tricky when you are minding a handful of pets at a time. However it gives the owner the peace of mind that their four legged friend is in good hands and what better way of letting images talk for you. Schedule your day carefully and plan in the extra 10 minutes to send updates."
My top 3 photo tips:
1. Don't shoot against the sun. Always have the sun in your back when taking a photo, otherwise you will only see the silhouette of your pup - lighting is key to a good photo.
2. Getting your pup to sit or lie down will help to take a good photo. Taking photos of dogs in action mostly turn out blurry unless you have a quick camera.
3. My favorite tip - Hold a treat visibly in your hand that you hold your camera with. That way you get a nice look straight down the camera lens. Let them smell it first too, so they know you have it in your hand.
What is a fun story from your pet sitting experience?
There are lots of fun stories to tell every day. The best one would be from a couple of days ago when I took four pups out to play in the dog park near Heidelberg, only to arrive to rain pouring down.
I was of course wrapped up in my all weather outfit and ready to go. As I opened up the car doors, however, none of them dogs showed any aspiration to leave it.
Considering all of them were at puppy age, I was certainly very surprised, especially knowing that my own Labrador absolutely loves rolling in mud.
They indeed gave a clear statement:
“I’m not getting wet, no!”
